Deans trip down memory lane
Sunday, December 21, 2008, 01:49 PM
On Thursday 11 December i went back to a college i went to for 3 years.
The college had a fair which they do every December and i got invited to go so me and a friend called David went along.
When we go into Windsor town centre we had to walk to the college. We both was looking forward to seeing our old friends again
Myself and David both went into the main door and we saw many of our old friends they were so pleased to see us and they all wanted to know what had we been up too since we had left.
I explained to them that i had moved into a new flat and was doing well.
I went around the campus for a walk around and i saw some of my other old friends in the garden area we all sat down and started to recount a story where we staring singing that brought back good times i could not help it but start to laugh.
The walk round made me think of all the good times like the football matches we played the song we sang and the friends ive made.
All of my friends gave their contact information so we could keep in touch You see when you go to a college for 3 years the students are like family you get to know their family and they get to know yours and you share good times and the bad times through it all as a class and a team.
When it was time to leave i had a tear in my eye because I did not want to leave I went round and gave all my friends a hug.
I went back home and thought wow if i could only relive my 3years over again.

Dean leaves college
Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 12:58 PM
On Friday 28 November I made a decision to leave my college course for personal Reasons.

I just wanted to thank my media tutor for helping me bring my creative side out of me while I was on the course and that I will use what skills I have learnt in a positive way .

May I take this opportunity to wish everybody else who was on the course with me good luck with the rest of the year and a successful future.

Now I have left college I am taking a year out and see what the New Year brings and take it from there

I want to thank My care manager Gerry for all his countless hours trying to get me to do my best even though it did not work (thanks mate )

Now its lots of free time and doing what I enjoy most watching Jeremy Kyle on daytime Tv!.

Dean starts a new college
Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 02:27 PM
This September I started a new college.

I was really worried about making new friends but I already have,

I got my new time at the start of the term and had a look at what lessons I had for the
Year and they looked very enjoyable.

I had “media” which was fun then I watched Edward Scissor Hands which was also very enjoyable. It was a strange piece to write a Film Review about, but I managed four pages or so, which is a personal best for me! I have never written that much in a lesson before now

I owe my media tutor one big thank you, because he gave me some advice that got the creative side out of my piece of work. Now I can write loads and feel very confident about my media work.

I am doing ok with settling into college life, hopefully I will then go onto my dream course which is Health and Social Care.

I want to train to be a youth worker and help people with learning disabilities to have a fun filled life, which they can be proud of .

Dean moves into his new flat
Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 01:55 PM

Over the summer I moved into a 1 bedroom flat.

I had been waiting for over a year and a half.

It was fantastic when I signed the documents I thought another next step up the housing ladder for me. I had to pay again for the carpet which was a lot when the bedsit flat that’s is because there is more room in a 1 bedroom then a bedsit .

When I moved in it was a weekend so I had to get a meter reading because now I am paying for gas I was not doing that before and getting a new phone line it was quite difficult for me because I had to give over loads information so I could get a payment plan up an running which was hard as well.

When I got everything up and ready it was great news everyone who saw my smile it was the happiest day in my life

It’s a bit more responsibility because there are few more bills like gas water electric and sometimes its scares me because when I have a few minutes to myself I thought I am responsible for all of the stuff in my new home

4 months on I am doing really well and some of my friends who have came back have said how nice it is.

I owe a lot of people a load of thanks because they have helped me settle in and get a handle on things.

Onwards and upwards for me.

My experience as a victim of fraud
Friday, March 28, 2008, 03:21 PM
Over Christmas 2007 I had a large amount of money stolen.

One evening I went into my local Nationwide branch like I do daily to withdraw cash for shopping. I asked for a mini statement to check how much was in there.

I noticed that a large sum of money was gone and I knew that something was wrong, so I asked if the cashier could find out how much had gone missing. I took the debit card to the front desk and asked if they could check with their visa department to find out what was going on.

The lady at the desk said that she would phone back after she had phoned the head office. Ten minutes later the lady from Nationwide phoned back and told me the amount was much larger than first thought. Over £500.

I was upset because I needed the money to pay bills and to basically live on. I just thought - right it’s here, you can’t change anything and just got to deal with it. Question was how was I going to deal with this and who could actually help me to overcome this?

A few days later I found out the money had been taken from a German bank in Milan Italy. I thought this is kind of insane and crazy to the max.

The bank gave me a £500 overdraft limit. I did not understand what an overdraft limit was and how to use it in the right kind of way - like learning on the job and it’s not an exercise, its real, anything can happen at any moment.

The bank and my care staff taught me to bank backwards, quite odd but easily done if you think about it. You can go under the overdraft limit but not over it.

I had to keep an eye on what I was spending daily. I got used to being in debt which is not nice but what can you do about it?

My landlord wrote asking me for payment and I explained what had happened and they were sympathetic with that week’s rent.

I was angry and upset - how could I give them what they wanted if I had no money to give them? It’s like any business, their main aim is to make money.

I felt upset that my mum had to pay the amount outstanding. I thought - it’s my problem, I will sort it out. Mum paid them what they wanted I thought thank god that part is over.

Then I had to tell the police about the theft - they gave me a crime reference for the bank to claim the money back and they took some details from me and that was that job done.

I’ve learned through this bad experience to never to use outside cash machines.

The bank explained that fraudsters sometimes put devices in the card slot of the cash machines so it was always best to use inside cash points rather then outside ones. I got all my money back within a few weeks.

This type of crime is very rare but can happen to anyone.
This is why I am telling my story so you can have an account of what it’s like to be affected by this.
